One of the advantages of having a small barbecue grill is that you can take it camping or tailgating. This portability allows an aspiring chef to cook from any place you can transport your grill. A few of the best-rated portable grills are reviewed below, along with a short summary of their features. Both propane grills and coal-fired grills are discussed.

The first one is the Weber Q220. This is the ideal mobile barbecue grill. It’s halfway between Weber’s Q120 and Weber's large Q320 in terms of both size and price. The Weber Q220 has a large cooking area of 280 square inches, which is room to accomodate fifteen hamburgers or a few hefty New York strip steaks. It has the weight of 36 pounds and is designed to be easily moved around. In terms of price, it’s midrange, usually retailing in the range of two hundred dollars. This piece has a built-in temperature gauge, and it has push-button electronic ignition.

A second grill is the Coleman Road Trip grill. This grill is comparable to the Weber Q220, and it also has an ingeniously designed built-in stand. It also has more power due to its two burners of 10,000 BTU each. The Coleman has true grilling with an open flame, and the burner is covered in order to prevent flare-ups. Even though it has an attached stand, this grill folds up very easily. It's big, with 285 square inches of room, so it can still cook for a dozen party people. The Coleman also has dual fold-out side tables plus push-button electronic ignition. If you’d like a stand to move your grill around easily, this is a good choice of grill. The Coleman also has a removable grill top that can be replaced with a griddle.

Another highly rated grill is the Blue Rhino GBT1030 portable BBQ grill. The most noteworthy difference with the Blue Rhino is that it’s very small and light. It’s built to fold up easily and has a locking top, which makes it safer to move around. At just fifteen pounds, it’s very easy to carry, but as a result you can only cook for a couple of people at once. It has a hundred and twenty square inches of room, which accomodates about four hamburger patties. There are a couple of powerful 14,000 BTU burners. They are controlled by separate knobs, so the chef only has to heat up the desired area. One of the burners is covered by a griddle for cooking food like eggs and bacon, while the other half is a normal grilling surface. The griddle can be removed to increase the area for grilling meat. An important note about the Blue Rhino GBT1030 is that it requires initial assembly, which requires you to follow the instructions carefully.

Our final grill is the Go Anywhere by Weber. If you prefer grilling with charcoal, the Weber charcoal go anywhere grill is the one to choose. This item is very thrifty, usually retailing for about sixty dollars. Besides using charcoal, a big plus of the Weber 121020 is that it’s extremely easy to carry – it weighs less than 20 pounds. It has 160 square inches of grilling space, so it’s a medium-sized grill. There’s still enough room to cook for half a dozen. Even though it’s designed to be a portable grill, the Weber 121020 can still be used as a grill for the home. Like all Weber products, it cooks evenly and doesn’t flare up. It can take a lot of abuse – some people are still using their Weber Go-Anywhere eight years after purchase. This same grill also comes in a propane model, the Weber 1520, for about ten bucks more.

If it's portability you desire, all of the above grills are good options. The best price can usually be found online, so make sure you read some portable bbq grills reviews before you buy. You should be able to get a significant discount off the retail price.
